German bomber losses over Anzio

hello
trying to ID the German bombers units that were intercepted by the 2nd FS, 52nd FG on January 23, 1944, four Spitfires claimed the destruction of 7 bombers, He-111, Ju-88 and Do217, any help appreciated.

cheers

ULTRA VL 4623: Reported by Luftwaffe Station Lucca that at 15.30hrs same day a mixed formation of He 111 and Ju 88 was attacked by four British fighters. Two He 111 and one Ju 88 lost. Comment: no details here.
These were from KG 26 (then based in southern France). Any Do 217s present would almost certainly have come from KG 100, based around Toulouse.

Re: German bomber losses over Anzio

There were several Ju 88 A-4 LT and A-14 LT (Torpedo Bomber) losses of III/KG 26, likely from S of France, on 23 January 1944.
One crashed Montpellier, three losses "near Netturo", one "force landed on coast near Pisa", one unknown, one 19:00 hrs Monte Tamura (total 7).

Operating He 11s in daytime in that area seem odd. Attacks were mostly in the dark with aid of flares. I have not done real research on these losses, so can not be any more specific.

Heavy air attacks were launched by the Luftwaffe in the afternoon of 23 January 1944. The surprise landing in Anzio area was enough a threat apparently to launch day attacks, even with He 111s.

Good evening,
thanks for the information to track down the ID of the bombers, the four pilots from the 2nd Fighter Squadron 52nd Fighter Group claimed at about 1645 hours six bombers shot down for no losses.
