Meaning of German word

what is the meaning for "tiefst"?

Re: Meaning of German word

Tief = low.

Re: Meaning of German word

Jim is correct - low. Only in this case it is in the superlative form so it translates as lowest.

tief = low.
tiefer = lower. (comparative)
tiefst = lowest. (superlative)

In der tiefsten Tiefe = In the uttermost depths.

Thank you both. So what kind of range in height could it be in describing a kill? Maybe just a catch all?

In English it would probably be called tree-top height.

Tiefstflug - as low as you possibly can fly over terrain.

Have a few very nice images in my collection were you can see trees and bushes lodged in the front edge of the wing....

Thank you all! There was a Russian pilot shot down in which the height was listed as 2000 meters but in Tony Woods for 20Apr43 it has Lt. Rudolf Miethig 3./JG 52 Yak-1 85 312: Tiefst 08:22. Even thought the Yak-1 was found in the area the height is completely off for the account of who shot it down and I am waiting to see what was the time of the mission.
