D-IDNT Bf 108 Taifun
D-IDNT Bf 108 Taifun
Would anybody be able to give me any background or even the first names of the two German officers (F. Pasquey & ? Thomas) who brought this aircraft over to the British Isles in 1938, supposedly for air racing but also believed to have been involved in intelligence gathering? Despite having a civilian registration, both men were serving Luftwaffe officers. Thank you Keith |
Re: D-IDNT Bf 108 Taifun
I do not have much information on D-IDNT but apparently it flew to N.Ireland landing at Newtownards, from there it flew south via the west coast of Ireland "sightseeing" taking in the new site at Rineanna (Shannon Airport). They landed at the Irish Air Corps base at Baldonnel without authorisation and with four on board. The Gardaí (police) would not allow two of them stay and they ordered the aircraft to leave. HTH

Re: D-IDNT Bf 108 Taifun
Thank you Tony. Apparently there is a file on their visit in the Irish Archives. I was really trying to find out about the two pilots who as I say I think were serving Luftwaffe officers but I don't know where to being to look this information up.
