Oberstleutnant Georg Dörffel
Hi guys
Reading the thread by Larry Hickey regarding this pilot allegedly being shot down by Flak at Tirlemont on 14 May 1940 and slightly injured I am wondering if there is any confirmation of the second incident said to have taken place on 28 May 1940 or June 1940 at St Pol near Dunkirk when he was wounded? At the time he was serving with 5.(S)/LG 2. It appears that there is not much information concerning the first incident but the second? Also, I have read that he was wounded at least twice in the first months of Operation Barbarossa while serving as Staffelkapitän of 5.(S)/LG 2. Is there any of the usual loss list information for these? Many thanks. Horrido! Leo |
Re: Oberstleutnant Georg Dörffel
Leo,
At the EoE Working Group we fully accept the second report in our DB as: "28 May 1940: 5.(S)/LG2 Henschel Hs123. Returned damaged by ground fire north of Bailleul. Lt G. Dörffel slightly wounded. Aircraft damage state not recorded." The events in Russia are beyond the scope of the EoE Project. It is the first incident, reportedly on 14 May for which we are seeking further clarification and information. |

Hello Larry
Many thanks for confirming the second incident. Your work is greatly appreciated and doubtless will be the standard for those interested in the early war period. Horrido! Leo |
