III/KG 55 Queries
I have obtained 3 photos showing the crash-landed He 111 of Hptm Heinrich Wittmer of III/KG 55 presumably 28 Jul 41. He was flying G1+AS-any idea of the Wk Nr? Crew were all uninjured.
Second, I have also obtained 2 photos showing the rudder of Lt Hans Thurner's (8/KG 55) He 111 P-2. I can make out Wk Nr 2823 and the rudder shows 2 missions against factories, 9 against airfields (they look like hangars) and then a man running away from 5 triangles with a I symbol after it. Would the Wk Nr match and anyone have any ideas of the symbols? |
Re: III/KG 55 Queries
He 111P-2 WNr.2807, Bruchlandung due to Flak, 35% damaged. Crew: Wittmer, and (B) Ofw. Hans Achatz, (Bf) Stfw. Schmidt, (Bm) Uffz. Konrad Knößl & (Bs) Gefr. Nitschke. This was at 18:40, back at Fl.Pl. Shitomir, from whence they'd taken off at 16:46.
I'm afraid I'm unable to help with Thurner's machine. The triangles with the fleeing figure represent an attack on a Zeltlager (tented encampment). GRM |
