3./ KuFlGr.606. Position Qu. 1631 1.0.E
 

Hopefully, someone might be able to answer the following.
If a 3./606 Do.17z reported a position of Qu.1631 1.o.E in June 1940, would it have been using the AN Quadraten chart or the Luftwaffe Quadraten chart? Why?

Where would the quoted position place the aircraft on each of those charts?
Does anyone have a photograph of all/any of the following that they are willing to share? Hptm. Golcher, Obltn. Diehl, Obfw. Golbach, Stfw. Werner - all of .?606?

Hi Bill

This is the usual notation of a position on the Kriegsmarine Grid Chart, the addition "l.o.E." means "linke obere Ecke" (left upper corner). The main grid is not stated, but assuming it is AN (North Sea) the grid AN1631 is a square of roughly 6 to 6 nautical miles with the center in 59°03'N, 01°48'W - upper left corner is in 59°06'N, 01°54'W, about 21 nautical miles east of Stronsay.

Wasn't KuFlGr 606 under operative control of the Kriegsmarine until September 1940?

Thanks for your answer, which confirms what I suspected. I don't know much about the Kriegsmarine Grid Chart - but you have added to my knowledge. I also don't know when KuFlGr. 606 ceased to be under Kriegsmarine control - clearly, there's much to be done!

Of interest, Oblt Rudolf Diehl took command of 3/606 from Hptm Heinrich Golcher only to be killed at the end of Jul 41 and was replaced by Oblt Peter Schnoor

Golcher was B Diehl F need to check others- I am away on business at the moment. No photos I am afraid
