Fw190D with colored cowl
A nice picture of a Dora with what looks like a two color cowl. Any idea as to identity?

Fw190D with colored cowl
Are those Germans (looks like it) or Russians in the photo?

Can't tell, the picture is low resolution.

Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
Looks like there are bomb racks under the wing.
ID for ground attack a/c? |
Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
I think it's the standard belly rack (for either a bomb or a belly tank)(ETC 501). I've seen one picture of a FW-190D with wing racks for bomb (ETC 71) but when i play with the contrast only the belly rack is visible.

Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
There is something out under the wing besides the ETC 501 under the fuselage.
This is a model of an F-9 for comparison http://modelingmadness.com/scott/axi...190/190f9p.htm |
Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
Could be a yellow cowling stripe indicating an SG Geschwader. Otherwise the things under the wings could be R4M rocket behalter... (in a hurry: leaving for holiday now, sorry not to be more precise)...

Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
From the other known pictures of this plane in JaPo and Eagle Editions books, it seems to be a regular Fw 190D-9 built by Mimetall, no two color cowl, no bomb racks, no R4M rockets. (A few D-9s by Fieseler had bomb racks under the wings).
The plane is possibly from I. /JG 6. |
Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
Thanks for all the information

Re: Fw190D with colored cowl
Micke D is correct. Cowlings were fabricated and painted elsewhere and sent to a central assembly point, hence the variation in cowling painting.
