Bellied Spitfire on the beach

Can someone reveal the identity of this Spitfire?

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Foto-Jagdflie...Ttvld/$_57.JPG

The serial number starts with W3..., and the ID number on the fuselage appears to be X-?D.

Thanks,

The Code looks like W3132 or W3137 both which fit a loss of this kind

Re: Bellied Spitfire on the beach

Denes,

The serial number seems to be W3131 which would make it the 401 Sq Spitfire Vb flown by P/O Omar Levesque who became a POW on Feb 12,1942. The serial is definitively W 313X. The othe two possiblities W3132 and W3137 had their pilots listed as KIA and this pilot looks like he survived. The code for 401 Sq was YO, so that fits.

I'll stand by my tentative ID. I blew up the serial number and can clearly see W313X. Also, the last part of the code is a D or an O and YO for 401 RCAF Squadron fits.

Hello,
If you take a look at the two pictures in the Luftwaff Experten Message Board then the name "Nellie" and serial number W3124 can be clearly seen, as can the top of the the First letter of the Squadron code "Z".
Both pictures were being offered on e-bay as a Typhoon which was clearly incorrect.
I looked again tonight on the LEMB site and the two pictures can still be found via the link given for e-bay.

Re: Bellied Spitfire on the beach

I think the confusion here is that we have pictures of two separate Spitfire Vs with the same code "X". The one from the LEMB site show W3124,which belonged to 222 Squadron and FTR on September 4,1941. Sgt Rudd became a POW.

That's it! I am fully convinced that my photo is identical to the aircraft depicted above, called "Nellie".

Thanks for the help.
