Unidentified fighter in Yugoslav AF colours
Can anyone shed light on what aircraft type of the Yugoslav AF is seen in the photo? It appears to be a Yak fighter; however, the balanced rudder gives me trouble...

Re: Unidentified fighter in Yugoslav AF colours
Hello Denes,
It seems to have a braced tailplane - which Yak-3 and Yak-9's didn't (I think). I thought it might be a IK-2 - right sort of rudder and braced tailplane, but I can't see any sign of the high wing to confirm. Regards, ...geoff |

It's rather small for a fighter - think trainer?

Yes, it looks very much like it (the open cockpit version).

Russian made tandem trainer used by Tito's Air Force post WWII ...

Re: Unidentified fighter in Yugoslav AF colours
Ikarus Aero 2 is not Russian made - is this confusion with the Yakovlev UT-2?

Re: Unidentified fighter in Yugoslav AF colours
Ikarus Aero 2. Yak UT-2 had more pointed rudder and a long tapered headrest.
