Help With MACR 3659

Does anyone have a copy of MACR 3659 that they could share. This is one of many that is not on Fold3.

The aircraft is B-24 42-52118, 448th Bomb Group, 712th Bomb Squadron, date of incident is 9 April 1944.

Thanks,

Bill Martin

Hello Bill,
Have you seen this site ?
http://www.forcedlandingcollection.s...dillypete.html

From "Losses of the 8th & 9th AF's" vol 3. page 43
MACR 3659: T/O Seething, assigned target Berlin-Tutow, Germany.
This B-24 was not seen after take off and probably joined another formation. A/c landed at Bulltofta airfield, Malmó, Sweden. 10 INT.
Note: A/c was repaired on 13th May 1944 and returned to England on 2nd July 1945.

From "Making for Sweden" part 2 the USAAF. Pages 41/56. covers the 9th april 1944, ten a/c landed in Sweden that day and seven crew members from a further two a/c that crashed in Denmark escaped to Sweden.
Case Number 67.
42-52118 had been hit by flak in the outer right wing, a large hole had been torn out of the fuselage and the right outer engine was probably leaking oil. The a/c was test flown on 17th May 1944.

Re: Help With MACR 3659

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply and information. I have viewed the information on the ForcedLandingCollection web site and I have Widfeldt's "Making For Sweden", part 2. However, I was not aware of "Losses of the 8th & 9th AF's". This is helpful information.

If the MACR 3659 information in "Losses of the 8th & 9th AF's" contains a list of the air crew, does it show T/Sgt. Duncan K. Thomson assigned as the radio operator for 42-52118 on 9 Apr 1944. If he was not the radio operator, does it show who was, and what was Sgt. Thomson's assignment.

The purpose of all of this is to help a friend learn about her grandfather's service. He was one of the air crew of 42-52118 with the 448th, and was on
the B-24 on 9 Apr 1944.

Again, thanks for your help.

Regards,
Bill Martin
