Malta Sea Gladiators questions

Which is the best book to get for Malta Sea Gladiators?
I'm looking for what colors they were, still Navy colors or repainted?
Couple of them had code letters in some photo's ,was that correct ?
Tried Goggle with the Bi Plane aces sight helping but other sights just confused me.
I making a model of a Gladiator and stuck on what to paint it but also like to read more on these.
Thanks for your time.
Rick

Hello Rick,

Try to get hold of the Gladiator books by Alex Crawford.
Mushroom books I think .

Good luck,
Alex

Hello Rick,

Alex Crawford's book about the Gladiator (2nd editione especially) is good and I can also recommend Brian Cull's "Gladiators over Malta", which probably is the best if you're only out for info on the Malta Gladiators.

Best wishes/Håkan

They were still in FAA colours, and were later repainted but apparently only to the later FAA colours (low demarcartion, Sky undersides) although this last point can be disputed.

At least two carried individual code letters.

I don't have the Crawford book (would expect it to be good) but can add my recommendation to the Cull book.

Hi Rick

I am the author of 'Gladiators over Malta' and also highly recommend it!

Amazon has a couple of used copies a £20.00 plus postage - I can offer you a new and signed copy for £20.00 post free (in UK). Paypal or cheque.

Now that's a bargain.

Re: Malta Sea Gladiators questions

Shouldn't that have been called 'Gladiators over Gozo'?

All the best

Hi rpeck350
Another good book on Gladiator colours over Malta is called:
'No Place for Beginners, Battle over Malta: June 1940 - September 1941' by Tony O'Toole published by Dalrymple and Verdun 2013.
It covers the history of the campaign and colours of each of the combatant aircraft pretty comprehensivley with side views and detailed captions.
