Unteroffizier Georg Steiner
 

Hallo!
To complete the biography of Uffz. Georg Steiner I´m looking for some
details of his personal record. Georg Steiner was born on 14.Oct.1922
in Oggelshausen near Bad Buchau. He served as Oberjäger(Unteroffizier)
at 3.Kompanie,Jägerregiment 228.
He was awarded with Deutsches Kreuz in Gold and Nahkampfspange in Gold
(only 633 awards!)
He was the model for Willi Heinrich´s novel "Steiner-Das geduldige Fleisch",
which was filmed on 1977 as Steiner-The iron cross".
Now my questions for this forum:
End of March 45 Steiner was on leave of absence at his hometown. He got the order to escort an USAAF fighterpilot,who was downed near his home,to the next POW service.
Does anybody of you know the name of this pilot and his unit?
On 2.April 45 Steiner took the train to return to his unit. He started in Ulm with the "Brenz-Bahn" to Aalen.At Niederstotzingen the train was attacked by allied fighters.Georg Steiner was killed,he died at 8.45 a.m.
Can anyone of you provide details about this attack?
