I think it is a US Thunderbolt, and someone just confused circumstances of the crash. Perhaps it is an early 4 or 56 FG loss, so it should be quite easy to narrow down.

Hi,

A lot witnesses remember to have seen this aircraft to American colors to come during at least three mornings to pull on American soldiers.
Is it reasonable to think that this aircraft could take a flight unbeknownst of its comrades several mornings of continuation. More the P-47 possessed no black and white band for the identification.
This P-47 seems a capture ancient enough before the landing allied.

I have heard about captured P - 47s attacking Allied forces. I am looking for the answer to your post. This P - 47 could have also been 9th AF.

I was quite surprised to find this discussion. I, too, have been wondering about the use of captured P-47 aircraft. Below is the text of a message I have posted on other forums. Although the aircraft mentioned above was shot down in August 1944 and the one I am curious about dates to December 1944, I wonder if there is a connection???

I recently acquired a diary kept by a soldier with the 736th Field Artillery Battalion. He includes much detail in his entries and seems to be accurate in most cases. One entry has me wondering, however. For December 25th, 1944, when the battalion was in support of units fighting for control of the towns of Waldbillig and Haller in Luxembourg, the soldier made the following notation: "Krauts bombed and strafed area using captured American P-47s."

Is there any record of the Germans using such captured planes to support their breakthrough in the Battle of the Bulge? Or, as I suspect, is this a case of friendly fire or mistaken identity?

The account of your American soldier seems to relate and to be a similar testimony to that live by my witness in August 1944.
American troops were those 6th of cavalry of the General HAISLIP., that descended the front of Normandy and ascended to Paris to this period.
