Dokudovo/Dokodowo airfield
During its short stay on the Eastern Front (June 44), III./JG 11 was based at Dokudovo or Dokodowo, reputedly near Minsk.
Was it Minsk in Belarus of Minsk-Mazowiecki in Poland? And what is its current name? Thanks in advance (to Larry?). Chris |
Re: Dokudovo/Dokodowo airfield
Hi Chris,
I have not completed the WWII airfields in Russia yet, but here is some preliminary information: Dokudowo (RUSS) (e. Dokudovo) (54 20 N – 28 53 E) General: landing ground in W Russia 100 km ENE of Minsk and 27 km ENE Borisov. Rated for bombers. Remarks: 7 Sep 43: the Führer ordered it immediately developed as a permanent airfield for bombers and close support units. 25-26 Jun 44: bombed for two days by Pe-2s from Soviet 1st Air Army. Operational Units: Wetterflugstelle 464 (Oct/Nov 41 – Jun 44); III./JG 11 (Jun 44); School Units: Einsatzgruppe/2. Fliegerschuldivision (Apr – May 44); Station Units (on various dates): Dokudowo is definitely not at or around Minsk: Minsk (RUSS) (e. Minsk) Total of 9 airfields identified in and around Minsk: Minsk I, Minsk II, Minsk III, Minsk IV, Minsk-Borovaya, Minsk-Dubinskaya, Minsk-Losha, Minsk-Machulichi and Minsk-Urochiche. Only two of these appear to have been used by the Luftwaffe. Minsk was liberated by Soviet forces on 3 Jul 44. |
