Bf109 Tail
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone want to suggest a WNr. based upon what is on this 109 tail surface? Supposedly a souvenir from a victory during the Battle of Britain. Appears to end with 406.

IMHO not Bf 109... looks a bit like Bf 110?! http://axis.classicwings.com/Luftwaf...n%20Sweden.jpg

Here's the other side. Obviously at one time had a wood piece attached to hang it. I don't know rivet or stringer structure to know if this is from a 109.

eeeeeeeeeeek...
Not 109 and not 110... Probably fake... Mike |
Re: Bf109 Tail
Tony,
It certainly is a fake: both the skin structure and the stenciled "W.Nr." do not fit with German aircraft production. Notice the "6" digit (the last one): it is typical for US serials... Cheers Marc |
Re: Bf109 Tail
Marc and all others,
Thanks for the comments. I don't cherish telling the owner-collector what he has is fake but will do so soon. I also noticed after reviewing you comments that the antenna wire mast would be at the peak of the tail if it were a 109. He does have a few other pieces I photographed and will display shortly, a JG3 emblem and a Bf110 nose section. Tony |
