luftwaffe poster unknown purpose
2 Attachment(s)
found this poster in stuff my dad brought back at the conclusion of WWII. can anyone tell me about it? hope to learn things such as: it's purpose; an assessment of its condition (considering age); how common is it; value; how to preserve it; etc............
it is 24" x 40" I'm trying to decide if it is a "keeper" for my grandsons or if I'm better off selling it. |
Re: luftwaffe poster unknown purpose
I cannot comment on its value -- like many "collector's items," Step 1 is always, "Find a collector - with money - who 'NEEDS' it."
It's purpose? It's a propaganda item, Knight's Cross recipients and Our Youth. The pilots shown all had received the Knight's Cross and, to represent a second award, the Oak Leaves. Each of these men are individually famous, one, at least (Hans Philipp) was already dead by the time this was printed. On the lower right is Hermann Hogebäck, who led the III/LG 1. His Ju 88 crew was unique in the Luftwaffe, as each (himself, his observer, his radio operator and his gunner) was awarded the Ritterkreuz. Hope this helps a bit, GRM |
Re: luftwaffe poster unknown purpose
Great info...thanks; I hadn't thought of it before but now I'll see what I can learn about each of the individuals highlighted in the poster. That should be interesting and will make the poster that much more meaningful. Your input is appreciated.

Re: luftwaffe poster unknown purpose
Edition by Luftwaffe photo department ,Luftwaffe Ministerium , Luftwaffe section trainees , in my opinion valuable piece of Luftwaffe history ,first time I see Dickfeld and Galland as well Captain H.J.Marseille depicted with Hitler Jugend Luftwaffe trainees ( preparatory Luftwaffe trainees ) Also depicted G.Rall ,Maj.Oesau,Maj.Lent, Hogenbaeck etc..recepients of Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves. Interesting is the remark on the front page or binder " after publication hang the stuff on a well visible spot "

This is great!! I especially enjoy learning about the direction to hang the poster on the wall. Encouraged by such informative responses as I've gotten I'll try to post photos that show the remainder of the poster----both the left and right side to see if the depictions add significance.
