Re: Ju 87D-1 WNr. 2172

Other than revealing that it was a D-1, I have nothing to add - 2172 doesn't show up in my records, although many of its "next-door neighbors" do, such as 2169, 2171 and 2173, etc. It MAY have been on the strength of the III/St.G. 1 or the St.G. 2, and possibly the St.G. 3, as many of these aircraft were delivered in batches, and the nearby Werknummern were serving in those units.

Sorry I cannot provide more. Good luck in your search, GRM

Re: Stuka Werk.Nr. 2172

THANK YOU, Matti. A nice tidbit.

I have one, nearby in this range, also listed as a D-3 (others were D-1s). Makes me wonder if it left the factory that way, or was retrofitted with the additional armor.

GRM

edit: So, after looking again, it turned out we DID have this incident, but listed as 2171. The pilot's name was slightly different as well, Breikschat. Mahlke also gives the incident (Flak) as originating over Kolovschina, and the location where they made their emergency landing (in the Gen Qm Abt. 6 listing) as Kirilowschtschina. Assuming your source is the WASt, they probably got the family name correct, as Uffz Alois Preikschart (observe added 'r', now) and Zickbauer were KIA 15.Aug. 1943 in WNr.110303. As the saying goes, "Research is ongoing."

Hmmm ... regarding logbook Kroß I have an Ju 87, W.Nr.2171, in October 1943 in Junkers Flugzeugwerft Breslau.

Re: Stuka Werk.Nr. 2172

There are NVMs for both losses: 1942-05-22 and 1943-08-15. In the first one name is Breikschat and in the second Preikschat. However, because EKM list has the name Preikschat, I have assumed that it is the correct name and Breikschat wrong.
GQM list dated 1942-05-24, item 26 gives name Breitschat and WNr. 2171. NVM gives 2172. Because normally NVM seems to have less errors, I again assumed that this is correct.
