Oblt Karl-Hermann Mejstrik 8/KG4

Hi, could anybody help with any service details on Oblt Mejstrik who served with 8/KG4 during the summer of 1943. From the research i have done so far it would appear he made his last flight on 13.3.45 so possibly survived the war.
Any further info would be most welcome.
Best regs,
Steve.

There is an Oberstleutnant Karl Hermann Mejstrik involved in the demise of the Cessna L-19A Bird Dog 3A-CP of the Austrian Air Force on 09 FEB 1967.

From our files we have this, which may or may not be relevant:

MEJSTRIK, Karl. 28.02.44 Oblt., (pilot) awarded the Ehrenpokal.

Re: Oblt Karl-Hermann Mejstrik 8/KG4

Good morning, thanks for the information on Mejstrik, udf-00 and Doug.
Does anybody know when he joined KG4 and any details regarding crew or a/c flown.

By mid 1943 8/KG4 were flying Heinkel 111H-6 and He 111H-11 a/c, has anybody got any information as to what colour 8 staffel individual a/c letters were coloured, would it be red, or black with white outlines. Perhaps photo's exist during this time?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Kindest regs,
Steve.

From flugbuches entries?

Yes, those are Flugbücher and all of them are in the collection of one individual. Amazing, isn’t it? Thousands and thousands of them. They are an excellent primary source for filling in the gaps in wartime career assignments for aircrew personalities. The owner of the collection does not make copies or lend them out to researchers. His policy is 1 for 1, meaning that he will trade one of his for one he does not have. I assume this means copies and not the originals.

Dear Larry,

you could collect these copies itself?! Of course this is an question of money or the priorities --- you can pay 1000 € for two pictures of an Bf 109, an trip to Kew or 20 - 30 copies of flightbooks ... or you have some connections to other collectors. In the meantime I've collected 900 -1000 copies and not one was from Walter Waiss (the "individual"). Somewhere I have an copy from the Mejstrik - books too but unfortunately I haven't founded the copy (not yet) in the meters of paper.

Thanks for the lead udf-00, however i stumbled across this site during my initial research for information on Mejstrik.

Larry and Rasmussen, regarding this huge archive Waiss has amassed, its a crying shame that much of this information will be kept away from researchers and enthusiasts. I am sure this treasure trove would help many of us fill gaps in records regarding careers and operational detail, but at the end of the day its Herr Waiss's perogative!
Kindest regs,
Steve.

You are right, Rasmussen. There are quite a few out there who collect Flugbuch originals or copies either in paper format or as digital photos. It's not my cup of tea, but like you said, we all have our interests and priorities. Those who collect for long will eventually come up against the huge W.W. collection and have to decide whether to try and negotiate with him or not. It's really too bad from the standpoint of historical research that the Flugbücher are not all together in a central repository, such as BA-MA Freiburg, where they could be studied and digital copies made.

Yeah, Steve. I guess we'll have to let W.W. skate on this one. After all, he layed out a hefty pile of quid for his collection so he gets to call the shots.
