JG26 Claims for 7th June 1940
Hello all. I am trying to find out which pilot from JG26 shot down P/O William Wilkinson of 43 SQN RAF over St. Velery, France, on 7th June 1940. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: JG26 Claims for 7th June 1940
Volume 3 of the Jagdfliegerverbände series lists two LW pilots from 4./JG26 as claiming Hurricanes that day, all from 43 Sqn. These were Uffz Wilhelm Philipp with one claim and Uffz Hugo Dahmer with two claims all in the area of Dieppe and all within 10 minutes of each other.
Caldwell's Volume 1 of JG-26 also lists these claims but also lists an extra claim by Uffz Iberle (4./JG-26) which was another 43 Sqn Hurricane 20km SE of Dieppe although it does state that according to German records Iberle collided with an out of control Hurricane while British records state he collided with a Bf-110. Caldwell's book also states that only one of these claims was confirmed. |

Not so. The action in which WILKINSON was lost took place hours earlier and involved the Bf109s of I./JG3.

In that case the four pilots from I/JG-3 credited that day - each with a Hurricane near Abbevillle - were...
Lt Helmut Tiedmann (2./JG-3) Obfw Bernhard Lampskemper (2./JG-3) Lt Eberhard Bock (3./JG-3) Lt Helmut Meckel (2./JG-3) The Battle Of France Then & Now states that it was possibly Lampskemper who shot down Wilkinson.
