Re: He 59N information
4 October 1939 Seenotstaffel 1 Heinkel He59N (1853). Overturned on landing in rough seas at Norderney 10.00 a.m. FF [ ] Kahl and FF Fw Gustav Stiefel (passenger) both believed unhurt. Aircraft WL+AEAS 95% damaged - write-off.
Does anyone have the rank & fore-name of this pilot please ? 27 June 1940 I can find no details of D-ADIT - presumably a loss by a non-operational unit ? 20 July 1940 SeenotflugKdo 4 Heinkel He59C-2 (0838). Abandoned by crew while being shepherded towards the English coast by of Green Section of No.238 Squadron (F/O Hubbard, P/O Grier, and P/O Doulton) during search mission for missing 3./JG27 pilots three miles off Cherbourg 7.20 p.m. FF Fw Herbert Degel baled out but killed, BO Fw Gustav Luppe, BF Gefr John-Werner Rosenthal, and BM Hptgefr Peter Filz all baled out and missing. Aircraft D-AKAR 100% write-off. The crew baled out too low for their parachutes to deploy. The body of Herbert Degel was washed ashore at Mers-les-Bains, Le Tréport, on August 20. I show this as a C-2 rather than N sub-type. Can someone please confirm one way or another ? 16 June 1941 My records do not extend beyond December 1940. |
Re: He 59N information
Thank you to Tony and Peter. Regarding W.Nr. 838, this was the only He 59C (not He 59C-2) to be converted to full He 59N ASR-Aircraft by Walther Bachmann in Ribnitz. The aircraft arrived in Ribnitz on 5. April 1939 and the conversion took 123 days.

Re: He 59N information
Probably Lt Gerhard Kahl, who was wounded in the wollowing:
1940-07-28, Seenotflug-Kdo 3, He 59, Kanal, Beschuß bei Rettungsaktion durch Jäger. Bruch 60 %. Flugzeugführer Lt Kahl, Gerhard, verletzt Beobachter Lt Wölke, Hermann, verletzt Matti |
Re: He 59N information
When googling D-ADIT all references point to a Ju-52 rather than a He-59?

Re: He 59N information
D-ADIT was a He 59N conversion. It was reported in service with Seenotflugkdo.2 in List/Sylt April-May 1940. Detached to Sola seaplane station Stavanger, Norway on 21. June 1940. On 27. June 1940 reported 100% crashed during landing while on ASR-sortie in search for a Lockheed Hudson in Pl.Qu. 2985. The aircraft took off from Stavanger-Sola seapl.stn. The British aircraft was Lockheed Hudson I N7299 of 206 Sq. that was presumed shot down by Ofw. A. Hackl of 5./J.G.77. The location was off Lista, Norway.
The crew of D-ADIT was reported as rescued without casualties. My references are KTB Gen.d.Lw.beim Ob.d.M./O.Qu. and KTB Seenotzentrale Nord (Luft). The W.Nr. is still uncertain, but one candidate is W.Nr. 1521. To Leendert: D-ADIT is mentioned several times in my sources as a He 59. To Matti: Thank you. Could you help me with W.Nr. 1976 that was lost on 16. June 1941. I need the Stammkennzeichen for this aircraft. |
Re: He 59N information
Sorry, I don't have the SKZ. Not shown in the NVM.

Re: He 59N information
Hi guys
Peter - slip of the pen: 20 July it was section of 601 Sqn (Hubbard, Grier and Doulton) not 238 Sqn. Cheers Brian |
Re: He 59N information
Hi Leedert & Seaplanes
Civil regs were reused quite frequently so references to a D-ADIT as a Ju52 does not mean that this was not assigned later to a He59. Once the first use was taken off the Register (crashed/sold/scraped) it could be used again. Regards Tom |
