Merry Christmas and He 111 Question

First a Merry Christmas to all the members of the forum. Now for a question, was the outboard bomb bay door of the He 111P segmented in some way? The only photos I have seem to indicate that but can't tell if it was series of separate doors or one complete piece. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Merry Christmas and He 111 Question

The He 111P had two internal, longitudinal bomb bays, each with four vertical frames capable of fitting SC250 or SD250 bombs. The (four) doors look like they each have four separate pieces but closeup photos show panel lines, not separate door segments. I cannot post photos, but Revell-Germany have done an excellent job with their 1/32 kit, the instructions are available here: http://manuals.hobbico.com/rvl/80-4696.pdf Just scroll down to page eight or nine or so.

One of several reasons why the He 111P was discontinued was its limited lifting capability, and external racks weren't going to help - and just add more drag to fight. Another reason was increasing Bf 109 production required those DB601s.

And Merry Christmas!

Hi, Chuck...

At this link http://www.ju88.net/otherprojects/he111p/finished.bmp, you can see an actual restored He111P in Norway, the basis for Revell's 1/32 kit. Having built the kit, I concede they are offered as four, long separate doors. however, my belief is that the doors were separate and completed the kit as such, as per my photos below.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Paul

Great photo, much appreciated. The 1/72 scale Hasagawa kit shows the outboard segmented and inboard as one piece.
