1940 Data Plate identification

Hi,

Please can anyone help with the identification of this data plate. It has the following information;

Messer u. Co. Type R1/5904
G.m.b.H. Nr. 420
Frankfurt a. M. Baujahr. 1940

The plate is approx. 100mm long x 35mm high and 1mm Thick.

Could the above mean Messerschmitt und Co. and the Bottom Frankfurt au Main, as the place of Manufacture?

Many Thanks in advance

All the Best for 2015
Regards Edward

Good evening !

This could be the Adolf Messer GmbH, Frankfurt/M., Germany. They produced oxygen systems and other industrial gases and are still big in this in Germany.

Hope it helps !

There was the Messer & Co. GmbH with parent firm in Frankfurt a.Main. They produced facilities for production of liquid oxygen (for Peenemünde) and facilities for welding of tanks during the war.

P.S. Oops ... Horst was faster.

Re: 1940 Data Plate identification

Hi, I looked on the web about this Company from a link from another forum and the website says they also made "pressed armoured cupolas for armoured vehicles also" Perhaps this was attached to Cupola, as it seems to be of a Military format of data plate?

I was not sure what this was from when I posted this thread, a stab in the dark really. It would be interesting to know what R1/5904 is?? Guessing this was perhaps the item coding. Interesting the company made items to do with Peenemunde.

Here is the website.

Many Thanks for the Reply.

Hello All,

Regarding your Typenschild for: Messer & Co. GmbH, Frankfurt/Main 1, Hanauer, Landstr. 310-326 [H], Hersteller code = gmc, is anyone able to make out the word immediately after “Co.” on the first line. I think that it is “Type,” but I am uncertain.

Thank you in advance,

Steve Sheflin
