Shipping captured Luftwaffe a/c out of UK
Hi Guys.
I am looking for the shipping documents regarding the Luftwaffe a/c that went to the UK and then to South Africa in 1947. During my research many years ago I was sent photocopies of two photos with 'P' numbers, and the person who helped me told me the gen came from the 'RAF Sealand papers'. At that time they were kept at Hendon, but he referred me to the archives at Kew. I have contacted Hendon to be more specific but they didn't respond to my email.( I am sitting in South Africa). I also contacted Kew and said they will refer it to someone and get back to me in a few weeks time. Now, I am sure these documents will also include the shipping of captured a/c to other countries, eg USA, so some of you may know them. The photocopy I have specify all the particulars of the a/c Does anybody know about these files and are they at Hendon or Kew?? If I know where they are I can try and chase them at least at the right place. Thx Stefaan |
Re: Shipping captured Luftwaffe a/c out of UK
Presumably one of the two Maintenance Units at RAF Sealand - 30 and 47.
Here's what they have at Kew - http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...e+unit+sealand I wouldn't be all that hopeful that there were much more than the odd references here to captured aircraft. I believe Phil Butler delved into this when researching 'War Prizes'. If you get nowhere with getting anyone to look into this, you're welcome to send me a PM and I'll take a look later this year but I' not going up for a few months. |
Re: Shipping captured Luftwaffe a/c out of UK
Thx Steve.
I'll look these up and order the 1946- files. Do you have the ability to photograph any photos if they are in the files?? Stefaan |
Re: Shipping captured Luftwaffe a/c out of UK
My photographic equipment (and skills) aren't necessarily quite up to the level you want. The PRO will provide scans at a relatively fair price although maximum dpi is 200.
The references to the aircraft you're interested in may only be fragmentary through the ORBs and you may only really need a few selected pages. |
Re: Shipping captured Luftwaffe a/c out of UK
Hi Steve.
Thx a mil. Was just quoted 74pds for 1 photo if they send it to me, x by 18 and you get rands. Our money is worth nothing. The orbs are easier, but their photo quality not good. Will see what I can do. Thx a mil Stefaan |

As I said if you're happy to wait until say the summer, I'd be happy to take a quick look for you but can't promise anything before then.

Hi Stefaan, Steve and Jerry
Just came across this post looking for something else. Did anything come from your visit or inquiry to PRO regarding No.47 Sealand? Air Min 52 was last at No.47. Regards, Vince... |
