two combats in SCW 21 and 22 february 38

hi,

i searching info about these two combats 21 and 22 february 38,
specially about losses....

i found in 21 february 38 (Teruel, Puebla de Valverde):

CR.32 lost was Pezze, As de Bastos, (in other sources include Mario Visconti shot down this day in republican area POW)

Viñals Guarro, Francisco I-15 CA-013 collide with CR.32 of Capitan Carlos Haya (As de Bastos) wich crashed with a mountain near Aldehuela KIA

or in other version:
I-16 Manuel Orozco Ovira apparently collided with Carlos Haya González or in other version with a Bf109...

seems two losses of Bf109:

one fall into a spin and other seen bail out or maybe on 22 february 38??

21 Feb or 22, 2 russian pilots shot down and bail out, one of them seriously wounded in a big combat....

2 Nacionalist pilots POW, Republicans claimed 14 and had 4 losses....

any more info?

many thanks,

regards

No. Pezze did take part in combat that day but he was not shot down. By the way he did see clearly what happened regarding the next question!

Viñals Guarro, Francisco I-15 CA-013 collide with CR.32 of Capitan Carlos Haya (As de Bastos) wich crashed with a mountain near Aldehuela KIA

This is to be found from Alcofar Nassaes 1975: La aviación legionaria en la guerra española. According to Alcofar Nassaes there is no doubt that Carlos Haya died piloting Fiat CR 32 and that he collided with I-15 which was seen by Italian pilots. This is confirmed in other sources like Rafael A Permuy Lopez 2011: Spanish Republican Aces which is making reference of the testimony of Viñals. Later García La Calle claimed that Orozco´s I-16 could be the one that collided with Fiat as its tail was also damaged in the combat. However the Italian pilots saw the collision of Fiat and Chato clearly and Viñals went through it more lucky than his counterpart. Not known Fiat collisions with I-16 on that day.

Also Nationalists came up with something not true of this incident: according to their official version the I-15 which had collided with Haya´s Fiat also went down and the Chato pilot had to bail out in parachute. That was nonsense, because in reality Viñals made it back to homebase with his badly damaged plane. Haya was a very famous pilot and Nationalists could not accept the fact that he did not take "one enemy down" from the fateful collision. Those hero legends...

or in other version:
I-16 Manuel Orozco Ovira apparently collided with Carlos Haya González or in other version with a Bf109...

As stated above, the famous Nationalist pilot Carlos Haya González was piloting Fiat CR 32 on that day and the story of him flying Bf 109 is wrong as well as the claim of him having collided with I-16.

The air combats of that day were rather confusing though with Bf 109 of Legion Condor firstly misidentified Fiat CR 32 as I-15 and later Fiat pilots misidentifying I-16 first as Bf 109. However, not known fatalities due to friendly fire.

seems two losses of Bf109:

one fall into a spin and other seen bail out or maybe on 22 february 38??

Could not find confirmation for this from the known loss records of Condor Legion. (Laureua 2000)

21 Feb or 22, 2 russian pilots shot down and bail out, one of them seriously wounded in a big combat....

Can not tell anything...

2 Nacionalist pilots POW, Republicans claimed 14 and had 4 losses....

...if this refers the air combats of 21.2.1938, they claimed 13 air victories, but the only known Nationalist loss to me was one Fiat CR 32 and its pilot Haya.

many thanks,

You are welcome!
