Re: Unit of FW190A or F Wnr. 340024?
Richard, this pic was discussed recently on LRG Forum; I unfortunately can't find the thread again, alas. This machine was originally a Focke Wulf Cottbus produced Fw 190 W.Nr. 340 024. it was certainly remanufactured late in the war, probably after crash landing or any other kind of damage; it sports the wavy Gruppe bar of an unknown IV. Gruppe.
I wish to thank you for the outstanding picture source you found. J. Malan Heslop, among others, took a remarkable series of photos on 17 April 1945 at Brandis-Polenz, the day that airfield was overrun by US troops. Cheers Marc |

Hi,
just a note that this one was built in Sorau not Cottbus. Regards, Norbert |

Re: Unit of FW190A or F Wnr. 340024?
Some additional infos:
A Fw190A7 flown at Sorau by Fw Steinke from 2 (Mitte) FlÜG 1 on 19. Feb. 1944. Crashed due to technical problems, damaged 60% at Hannover on 22. Feb. 1944 still with FlÜG 1, pilot unknown. A closer look at the foto shows a stencil just above the snake-code showing a small black triangel followed by "MS(unreadable letter) 15.02.45". MSM is the code for "Weser Flugzeugbau GmbH Delmenhorst" MSN is the code for "Weser Flugzeugbau GmbH Einswarden" MSO is the code for "Weser Flugzeugbau GmbH Lemwerder". So the a/c probably was repaired at one of the above mentioned facilities, got F-series wings and was repainted with late war Balkenkreuze. A strange bird indeed. Carl |

Re: Unit of FW190A or F Wnr. 340024?
According to the acceptance document dated 19. Feb. 1944 when Fw. Steinke flew this aircraft it was supposed to go to Langenhagen. So I guess Hannover-Langenhagen was the airfield of the mishap on 22. Feb. 1944. Just a little added detail....
