Any French (?) claims vs. Fw 190D on 14 01 1945 ?
Hi,
I'm looking for unit responsible for the shooting down two following Jagdgeschwader Fw 190D-9 fighters, in the area north of Hagenau on 14 January 1945. -Uffz. Erich Ohlendorf, a member od 2. Staffel, was killed in in Fw 190D-9 Wk Nr 600383 in aeral combat with around 20 Spitfire's; -An Fw 190D from III/JG 2 was shot down in this area, but no personal loss connection with this loss; I have Mr. Foreman "FC Victory claims" & Mr Shores "2nd TAF" books, so I'm pretty sure that participation of RAF units is excluded. Combat of Mustang equipped 64. Sqn vs JG 2 in the area north of Frankfurt am Main is different story: 7 (+1 probable) Fw 190 kills claimed vs 7 other JG 2 planes shot down. Logically Hagenau is the area of work for Spitfires (or even P-47, wings of both planes are quite similar, so mistake is possible) of Armée de l'air, thereby my question... BTW: I'm checked kill list of French units available on the site www.cieldegloire.com, but did not find any claims for 14 January. |

Hi,
According to the book "Pilotes Français sur l'Alsace et l'Allemagne", (one second-hand here http://www.leboncoin.fr/livres/393544474.htm) French unit GC 1/3 "Corse" between 1500 and 1655 did a mission "armed reco" over Saverne/Sarreguemines/Sarrebourg/Haguenau/Saverne/Nancy. About 1600 they have been engaged in a fight with three "Messerschmitt". it is not clear but ltt MArchal crashed and POW and this pilot told that he learnt that a "Messerschmitt" has been shot down (may be by ltt Deniau ?)
