Hans Troitzsch's Emil subtype?

Hi,

Could anyone please tell which type of Emil Hans Troitzsch's Bf 109E "Yellow 5" at Wangerooge was.
I have the decals on the Skymodels sheet, but it is only identified as an E. I wonder if it was an E-1 or an E-3.

Someone said that the Wk Nr 1279 indicates it's an E-3.
But I came across a review of a "Lifelike" decal sheet where it's called an E-1.
I thought "Lifelike" decals were well researched.

Cheers, Stefan.

Hi.

According to my sources this was an Erla built E-3.

In addition to published sources, information from repair works indicate subtype of several neighboring aircraft in the WNr range (WNr 1280 being the closest) was an E-3.

I would build this as an E-3.

I see that Jim P says it is reported as an E-1 (written while I wrote my message).. so there You are... sources stating both subtypes

Regards,
Andreas

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Considering the interest there is in the 109 and the thorough research of the recent years, it's amazing that we can't be quite sure about this one.
I gather it's potentially the first Luftwaffe aircraft that shot down an RAF aircraft in WWII.

Best regards, Stefan.
