28 May 1942 - F/O Pockley RAAF
Trying to locate the name of the Italian submarine that F/O Pockley of 10 Sqn RAAF attacked on 28 May 1942 and then it was subsequently attacked by a pair or single Hudson['s] from Gibraltar.
It was though the sub was damaged. Could anyone help ? As it would appear that the Australian National Archives website is down for maintenance ? Have checked other reference material on shelf to no-avail. With Kind Regards Andy Bird |

Hi Andy,
I don't know if you are aware but Pockley was also involved in an attack on another Italian submarine. As a Flt Lt he was the captain of one of three Sunderlands (two from 10 Sqn RAAF, one from 461 Sqn RAAF) that attacked the Reginaldo Giuliani in the Bay of Biscay on 01 Sep 42. Hi Andy,
Hope your well, Hadn't realised, his name was written in the margins of a diary with just the date and 'attacked an Italian Sub.' Yes, found it. I've written about the action and him on page 41 which by page 46 has F/461 [P/O Husband] being blown out of the skies by Ju 88s. The Form Orange tells a fascinating story as does KTB for the Italian sub. Very Best of Wishes Andy B. |

Hi Andy,
All good thanks. There is an article in the February edition of Flypast about the Giuliani, albeit the RAF's efforts to photograph it at Santander. Best Regards Andy Fletcher |
