Hurricane P3426 and other ebay Hurricanes

Some nice Hurricane pics.

This one has been discussed. Thought it was P3428 but this was lost in the UK in June 1941. So it looks like P3426.

Again, it looks like a survivable crash landing but pilot listed as killed?

And others

Mark

Definitely P3426

Yes looks survivable

But the pilot could have been killed while landing if say straps not tight.

He could have been mortally wounded but could still land and died soon after

The pilot may have been killed after he landed and was making his way back to own lines etc

"Photos have now emerged that indicate P3426 was NOT the aircraft flown by SHREWSBURY of No.85 Squadron when lost on 20 May 1940 as I have recorded in BoFrT&N."

OK so we now know that P3426 was coded 'B' but any evidence it was at 85 Sqn ?

Paul

Yet again, '85Sqn' and France 1940 is a total minefield!

Paul,

I am not currently aware of any evidence that P3426 was ever with No.85 Squadron.

Re: Hurricane P3426 and other ebay Hurricanes

Just a thought. How about this.

20th May 1940. Hurricane 'P2634'. Shot down by ground fire during attack on enemy armour and crash landed west of Arras 2.30pm. Pilot Officer T C Parker of 79Sqn unhurt. Aircraft a write off.

Hurricane P2634 could easily be P3426. P3426 in the photo - the 'B' does not look like the style of 85 Sqn.

P3426 force landed, the pilot survived and interestingly same area, same date and same type of combat??

Perhaps Shrewbury was flying P2634? Everything else is basically the same.

Mark
