The photo appears several places on the web if you do a Google Search for it.

On a couple, such as this one (see item 12 on the page) there are apparently some additional words in the description: "5 April in the morning Neuvireuil WW1" Perhaps they are on the back of the photo. The year may be 1917, taken during the battles near Arras in April of that year. I think the battle started April 9 but there was probably a lot of air activity leading up to it.

No year is mentioned on any of the links I saw for the photo.

Is there a body in the picture located in the "seat" area and dressed in leather? It looks like a helmet/head and something circular (part of the goggles or an ear flap) is down to the lower left and the rest of the body goes back into the plane.

Yes, upon closer perusal, it has to be WWI. Maybe I should post it on the Aerodrome?
