Stab JG 54
Can anyone tell me where Stab JG 54 was at the beginning of April 1943?

Re: Stab JG 54
Tango Echo Delta -
Siverskaya from 5 Sep 41 through Jun 43, according to my notes which do not include anything from Prien's thousand volume Jagdverbände series. But I do have a loss for the Stab on 17 Apr 43 in which a Bf 109 G-4 was shot up and crash landed at Oldenburg with 20% damage. Now, how this aircraft got from the Leningrad Front to Northwest Germany I can't say. There are a dozen possibilities but it does not mean that the entire Stab was there. The answer may be in Prien's series. L. |
Re: Stab JG 54
Larry,
I suspect that your Stab/JG 54 Bf 109 G-4 was in fact the Stab III./JG 54 aircraft. The Gruppe was at that time based at Oldenburg and equipped with the Bf 109 G-4 aircraft. Stab/JG 54 at that time, and I believe until the end of hostilities was equipped with the Fw 190 A aircraft. Regards, Sinisa |
Re: Stab JG 54
Sinisa,
That certainly could be. Maybe Matti S. will see this and post the details on the 17 April 1943 loss report. L. |
Re: Stab JG 54
Bf109G-4 WNr.14971, 7./JG54, Oldenburg 20% ... Indicated Stab/JG54 per loss.

Re: Stab JG 54
No personnel damages and therefore no NVM. III/JG 54 had five crashes on that day with Bf 109 G-4. Stab JG 54 never operated Bf 109 G-4. It lost the last Bf 109 G-2 in February 1943 and flew after that with Fw 190 A. So, as Sinisa said, this Bf 109 G-4 was of Stab III/JG 54 and not of Stab JG 54.
