Is there someone who can tell me something about Uffz Fischer Hans from 12./NJG 1.

Unteroffizier Hans Fischer made two claims with 12./NJG 1:-

11th March 1944 Lancaster 2135 hrs at 60 metres altitude
11th April 1944 Lancaster West of Roermond 2315 hrs at 5600 metres altitude.

Sorry, but know nothing else about him. With his low rank there is always the possibility he was a bordfunker. I can find no lose details for him as a pilot, but can trawl though the losses looking for bordfunkers......might take a while though.

P.S his first claim would be a very strange one if actually a bordfunker because of the extremely low altitude........how the hell would he get underneath it!!!!!!!!

Hi Johannes

With regard to the mentioned 60 meters I doubt that is correct.
I can´t visualise any British crew flying at 60 meters height at that time of year and during such late hour.

The height was more likely 6000 meters and some digits are are most likely missing in the report you are quoting.

Yes, it would have to have been a very sick bomber to have been at such an altitude..........and lucky not to have already come to grief by hitting anything.
Sadly this altitude would have resulted in total loss of crew. In fact bomber command lost no Lancaster's this night, but guess the altitude could be explained if a mine-layer, or something else obscure. Other of our members are better qualified to answer this. That for 11th April 1944 would have been from the Aachen raid of that night, Bomber command lost nine Lancasters

Did find a loss detail for an Unteroffizier Hans Fischer, but with 9./NJG 2 who crashed his Ju88 South of Geseke at 0905 hrs(daylight) in a non combat situation injuring the entire crew+ Ogfr. Hans Tackenberg, Gefr Bruno Schramm and Uffz Josef Märkl.......10th September 1944.

No proof it's our guy, but does seem a good chance it's him.

Back home again and I now have a bit more sources to look inside.
Theo Boiten says the claim was over the North Sea 20 km west of Vlieland.
He does not state the height which is interesting, since it seems he then also have second thoughts about that detail.

Since Bomber Command did not have any mining missions that night anything lost over the sea had to be someting else. Perhaps Coastal Command?
