Re: Loss German fighter 7-4-1945
Harrie,
It is the first time that I have heard of a fighter crash so late in the war in that area. I have my doubts.....however, if you could share more info I can do a check in my records if I can find any leads; 1) Can precise the location a little bit? 2) How do you know the date for sure? Source? 3) How do you know the pilot was killed? Records? 4) Was the pilot buried, possibly as unknown? If so where? Regards, John |
Re: Loss German fighter 7-4-1945
Thinking of where the German front lines were by 7 April (two weeks after Montgomery's armies crossed the Rhine) I wonder what a fighter would be doing over Holland? Most of the Luftwaffe's efforts in the northern sector on this date seem to have been against the British bridge head at Lauenburg on the Elbe.

Re: Loss German fighter 7-4-1945
Hi John ,Nick
It was also a little strange to me that,s why i put it here ,but in the book of M. Huizinga met de blik naar boven says on 7-4-45 . At Zuidlaren crashes a German fighter ,pilot killed in de community of Anloo .This is the only text about it . No NVM for that date ? |
Re: Loss German fighter 7-4-1945
Hello Harrie, Nick and John,
the 7th of April 1945 was the day of the ramming attacks of the "Sonderkomando Elbe". All other units must stay at there basis. There was only one Me262 unit from Kaltenkirchen south of Hamburg shorty in action. If the crashed plane was a Messerschmitt Bf109 it can be only from Sonderkomando Elbe! There are six Flugzeugführer (Pilots) still missing from that day. I had searched at lot for the missing ones in northern Germany and stay in contact to the German Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. Please look over any further information at your area in the Netherlands for this crash. Please ask older people in the town Anloo for any information or a grave. Best wishes Ruediger |
Re: Loss German fighter 7-4-1945
Hello again,
please remark that a RAF Spitfire crashed at Zuidlaren at 2nd of February 1945. One German Bf109 was destroyed at ground at Twente airport at 7th of April 1945. Best regards Ruediger |

Re: Loss German fighter 7-4-1945
Gentleman,
Unfortunately the author of the book has passed away ,i,ve tried to approach some people around the publisher .On that particular date/period the french paratroopers has landed in that area and there where locals shot by german troops, so it will be difficult to check information ,but nevertheless we can give it try to search for older local people. On the other hand i can,t imagine this is a hoax . The spitfire crash 2-2-45 is known and well documented . I try to spend some time about this case. Regards harrie |
