Hans Kriegel of IV./JG 5
 

Hi Guys

Hans Kriegel Born 21st January 1914. Is supposedly KIA on 20th June 1944 probably with IV./JG 5 at the time. Can anybody please enlighten me with the details.

(DOB: 21.01.14 in Liebau/Silesia). 01.04.39 promo to Oblt. 14.06.40 trf to 1.(H)/Aufkl.Gr. 41. 24.09.40 with Zerstörerschule Schleissheim (to 30.11.40). 01.12.40 trf to BFS Brandis. 14.04.41 trf to Stab/ZG 76. 16.04.41 Oblt. and Staka 7. (or Stab?)/ZG 76, WIA - Bf 110 C-4 (2N+DR) damaged by RAF Beaufighter and landed at Herdla. 28.06.41 Oblt., III./ZG 76 WIA - Bf 110 D collided with a Bf 109 during a take-off from Kirkenes - head injury. 04.08.41 Oblt., Stab/ZG 76. 01.03.42 promo to Hptm. c.26.06.42 Hptm. in Stab/Jagdfliegerführer 5, appt Kdr. IV./JG 5 (to at least 04.44). 30.03.44 Hptm., IV./JG 5. 20.06.44 KIA. Credited with at least one victory.

Hallo Lilsis, thank you for that. Thus far we have learnt that Hptm. Hans Kriegel was not KIA while with IV./JG 5, and from your post, that it happened while countering the Allied landing in Normandy. Still not enough to respond to the query, but some progress nevertheless.

Thanks Guys

Seems he was killed in France on the ground with another unit. I have three claims for him, two with the Stab./ZG 76 in 1941 and another with IV./JG 5 in 1944.
