Free French escapees
Hello, Forumites
Does anybody have information on French aircraft which were flown across to England in 1939 - 1941 by people escaping from the advancing German forces. Tia Bigweeker |
Re: Free French escapees
Hello,
If I recall correctly this has been discussed on this forum in the past so must be in the archive section somewhere, take a look. Perhaps another member may provide a link or two ? Alex |
Re: Free French escapees
Some information can be found in Impressments Log Vol IV (Air Britain) by Peter Moss.
I would say rather few aircraft escaped to Britain since at the time large number of French individuals felt betrayed by Britain and it was not opportune to chose that way out. Since the French armed forces were pushed south I would say that most aircraft still airworthy made their escape to North Africa and not across the Channel. Otherwise the best sources would be French books and articles about the aircraft used at the time, the French/British civil registers plus Air Britains serial books. Cheers Stig |
