Japanese Fu-Go Balloons

From what I have read, a few of these Fu-Go (paper) balloons were actually shot down by fighters (P-38s and P-61s) over the West Coast of USA and Canada. Has anyone dates, names and other details?

Cheers
Brian

Brian:

want a first hand account book ?

type in Brookings, Oregon on your search engine. then one you get on the little towns web-page find the information center which should have an e-mail addy. Now what you want to ask is about the book that covers the incident in 45 where a Pastor, his wife and children were killed after the children touched the lethal device in the Oregon coastal hills. The book covers this terrible tragedy plus the bombs in general with maps and schematics if I remember correctly.

There is a rather large white stone monument on the place of the explosion. As I live in Oregon, USA the place of this is some 65 miles to my southwest.

strange eh ?

Erich, actually that occured just out of Bly, Oregon, about 55 miles east of me (Klamath Falls). I've been to the site many times.

Dan sorry I am pretty f**** due to cancer treatments, you are very right, I had to go look in the data base. seems some 9000 ? paper balloons were sent over to put on some fires especially on the west coast. reports of 58 balloons seen on one day
