Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Similarly to the production list at Weser (see separate thread), my contact compiled a list of production at Dessau Works, as follows:
11 A-0 0001-0011 145 A-1 0012-0156 (incl. two K-1s for Japan) 27 A-2 0157-0183 10 B-0 0184-0193 5 C-1 0569-0573 (last Stukas built there) Any comments would be appreciated. |

Apparently your contact, whoever that is, does not know that many Ju 87´s Stu.Ka. were assembled at FZB (Bernburg), before move of all Ju 87s to Weser? To give way to Ju 88, and similar to the Ju 88, fuselages were built in one place and wings, tailpanes and engines in another. This was already established with Ju 52/3m and Ju 86, altho the latter(s) was also Licence built. This is German Aviation History 101, so to speak, and might indicate person has "not done his homework". Main reason for this was capacity problems at Junkers before the war. And no mention of Hungarian "Ju 87 K 2-1" (no mistake in spelling here). But I am not Ju 87 expert. -Ed |
Re: Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Hello Ed,
My contact is an old Hungarian man, who has access to the internet, but cannot really navigate it. He works mostly from printed materials, including original documents. Personally, I never tried to put together the Ju 87 production list, so I cannot comment your 'lack of German Aviation History 101' remark. I will not forward this note to him either. As for the Hungarian export - a topic much closer to my field of interest - as far as I know the two Stukas actually delivered were officially called Ju 87 K 2, without any other additional suffix (while the sub-type intended to be manufactured under licence in Hungary was Ju 87 B-K). What would the additional 1 in the suffix mean? |
Re: Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Hello Dénes,
The K 2-1 would indicate that the same type was exported to more than one country (second country would be refered to e.g. K 2-2 etc) or that there were so small differences that it did not warrant the issue of a new designation. There are other examples of this practice among Junkers aircraft. Best regards Mikael |
Re: Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Thanks Mikael,
these Ju 87 K 2-1´s had serials 0524, 0526, 0528, 0530, 0532, 0536 etc. (28 machines) under Lieferplan 16 (to be made in 05.40 onwards) but were not exported, because of war in the west (JFM reference dated March 1940). Some were converted to Ju 87 D prototypes, eg. 0536 V21, 0538 V25, 0540 V22 SF+TY, 0544 V24. Denés, none of these (on list) was "Dessau". All info seems (usual) inaccurate "standard" publication and no "re-search" involved. Me explaining GAH 101 here whould undouptedly bore most and perhaps offend some or none, so will pass on this. Best regards Ed |

Ed,
Let's watch the snarkiness here. People on the board range from newbies with little experience to very knowledgeable people like yourself. Also, accuracy of sources is not always known to everyone. |
Re: Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Hi Denes,
This is definitly a question to be adressed at Peter Achs. Thanks for the V-Numbers Ed! A list of V-Numbers of Ju87s would be a nice thread to start heute on TOCH? Martin |
Re: Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Martin; I belive PAchs does not visit here, similar reason as Gunther Ott quit visiting at old L(E)MB; because before, people regrettable bullied (?) on him and drove him off, well realising he really knew his subject AND had "bona fide" research behind it - but I have not heard from him in long time. I hope he is well.

Re: Junkers Ju 87 Production at Dessau
Hello, German Aviation history enthusiasts!
I think that we can agree that German Aviation history is difficult and there are many minefields. One lesson that you must learn quickly is never trust previously published books/articles that are not written by someone who you know does his/her own research in the archives. An incredible amount of rubbish has been published and some people have apparently used more imagination than research, and when others reiterate what they have written, you get an effect that is almost impossible to stop. To establish production figures and constructor's number ranges is a qualified task that requires many. many hours of work, both at the archives and at home. If you ask someone who has spent these hours on research to simply give you his results you can not expect to get an answer. Exchange is the keyword. I like to visit this forum because now and then I find a piece missing in my jigsaws, and now and then I can help someone else with a missing piece. I appreciate when people share the result of their research, and when I see something that is clearly from a publication of the sort referred to above, I just skip it and look at the next entry. One thing that I find particularly useful is your lists of eBay images, Ed. Lennart A |
