Hptm Hoppe 8 & 2/KG 40

I am a bit confused. Hptm Fritz Hoppe was on 8/KG 40 31 Dec 42 and landed in Spain. Oct 1943, Maj Hoppe St Kap of 8/KG 40 which then became 2/KG 40. However, according to the Luftwaffe Career Summaries, he was an Oblt on 5/KG 40 and shot down (but was safe) on 24 Jan 44. However, there is a Hptm Georg Hoppe who was on 2/KG 40. Can anyone unravel?

I'm confused, too. Maybe Doug can provide some additional information.

Going out on a limp, it may be confusion emanating from the often erroneous and/or intentionally misleading information found in ADI(K) interrogation reports. I recall a comment in one of them by an interrogator to the effect that many KG 40 aircrew were champion prevaricators, having received excellent instruction in how to bamboozle enemy interrogators. If this confusion is from the source noted, then I take full blame as Doug has never worked with the ADI(K) or CSDIC reports. I hope someone can clear this up.
