Unknown triangle on the tail of a Ju 52

Good morning to all,

Please take a look on this Ju 52, ready to start towards Crete. What is the meaning of this triangle on the tail ? Can this help to locate the unit ?

There have been various photos posted that show similar triangles, some just a solid color with no outline or in a different position or size. I am not aware of any confirmed explanation. Ed
