Some questions about 1.(F)/122
Hi friends,
I try to get some more informations about my father as observer in 1.(F)/122. All I have are memories of conversations that I had with him as I was young. Time range to discuss : 16 may 1940 - 25 april 1941, Norway, Ju 88 (G ?) 1.) Blenheims He told me that there were lots of trouble with them because they were something like annoying flies who always disturbing the daily job. So there was a claim over an Blenheim. My question : Are there any Blenheim shotdowns by 1.(F)/122 in this time and if - any namens of the crew ? 2.) Accident of an comrades crew My father told me that they lost a crew in an flying accident. This crew flew into a fiord to see if there are enemy ships. The reasons for the accident were unclear - it was said poor visibility, lack of experience. So they flew up to the end of the fiord, the pilot starts climbing to late so they crashed in to the fiords end mountains. Are there any known informations of accidents in 1.(F)/122 like this ? Maybe names of the crew ? 3.) May 1940 - V.A. Cunningham’s Convoy Was 1.(F)/122 envolved in discovering this convoy and if - what was happend ? Friends - any help to enlighten all this is really appreciated even it´s a little spark in the dark ;*) Best Regards - Rainer Most important of all : Many thanks to Andrew Mitchell and his great Luftwaffedata website !! |

Re: Some questions about 1.(F)/122
Also from my May 1940 page
1 May 1940 – He 111s from 1(F)./122 found Vice-Admiral Cunningham’s naval force west of Namsos and Vice-Admiral Edwards-Collin’s units further south. As a consequence of this Cunningham’s ships were attacked by elements of II./KG 26. See Shores - Fledgling Eagles p303 and also reference same p302. |
