There must be an error in your source - the WNr. 2579 was a Bf 109D.

W.Nr. 2579 was reported as a Bf 109D of J.G.103 lost on 21.08.1944
at Stolp-Reitz airfield. Crashed 70% killing the pilot Flg. Helmut Sallein. Info thanks to ahs.no and the efforts of Andreas Brekken and Johan Petersen. |

FYI, the info about the Yugoslav Emils on the site you provided link for has nothing to do with reality. There was obviously a mix up of allocated line of military serial numbers beginning with 2501 and W.Nr. Cheers, Boris |

Wasn´t the Yougoslav numbering system quite different from the German Werknummern system? The original L-61 was WNr. 2372. The Yougoslav No. would be 2559.

At first Yugoslav Emils got only the "L" individual number beginning with L-1 and so on. This was applied in Regensburg during production. They also had an ordinary W.Nr. but unfortunately only few of these are known. Before being delivered in 1939-1940 few (probably two) planes were lost and these were not replaced. That lead to the first interruption in the line of "L" numbers. In the spring 1940 Yugoslav AF introduced a new system of military serials and allocated the line beginning with 25 to Emils (2501 and so on). These were painted on aircraft which already had the individual "L" numbers on the fuselage. Some aircraft, possibly the first 15-20 machines, had the serial and individual number in correlation (L-1 was 2501, L-2 was 2502 etc.), however, later the connection between the individual and serial number dissapeared (L-46 was 2543). This goes especially for the later batches, as from 100 ordered aircraft only 73 were delivered and those that were delivered did not came with individual numbers one after the other, but rather as they were finished. So for example, L-88 was delivered to Yugoslavia, but the mentioned L-61 was not. I hope I was not too confusing.
