Ansbach, May 1945
 

Does anyone have, or could anyone point me in the direction of, a list of aircraft surrendered or captured at Ansbach airfield.

From my research, a number of US Army and USAAF units transitted through the base in or around May 1945 and photographs have been published of german aircraft captured there.

Hi,

I can not help you, but your thread is for me interesting because I am trying to research where sourrendered units who flew out of Bohemia. Only few Luftwaffe units fled by air, another tried to fled by cars to Russian captivity and surrendered to Americans. Amongs these were for example such famous units as JG 52 or JG 77.

As far as I know, I./TG 3 (several A/F in Central Bohemia) flew their planes somewhere into Bavaria, parts of KG 4 as well some jets units (JG 7, Gefechtsverband Hogeback, 1.(F)/100 etc.) to Weimar-Nohra, Stab, II. and 10.(Pz)/SG 2 surrendered in Kitzingen. I don´t know where were surrendered following units: III./SG 2, all SG 4, III./SG 10 and Stab, II. and III./SG 77 which for sure flew somewhere to Bavaria. One plane of Stab III./SG 10 was shot down on May 8 nearby Pilsen, on direct route from his last base in Vysoké Mýto (Hohenmauth) to Bavaria.

So, I know that I didn´t help you much but at least we have same area of interest.

Michal, can you possibly give me more information regarding 1.(F)/100 ? It has been difficult for me to find much on their use of the Me 262, so anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hallo Dan,

practically all of my knowledges about 1.(F)/100 are based on article by Christan Müller and named Letzte Flug der Me 262 V555 am 8.Mai 1945, published in Luftwaffe im Focus, 3, 2003, p. 42-45. I suppose you have already red this article. If not, let me know.

Maybe of interest of you could me several police reports on Me 262 attacks on position of 3rd Regiment of Vlasov Army which besieged Ruzyně (Rusin) A/F and forced to jets based at Ruzyně took off for Žatec (Saaz).

Dear Mihal,

relating to JG7, KG51 and KG(J)54 it is well known, that the last intact Me262´s stationed at Prague-Ruzyne and then Zatec (Saaz) left for Fassberg (the "Fassberg fives"), Munich-Riem, Lechfeld and Dedelstorf. Other jet pilots took a ride with any other flyable prop-planes (Fi 156, Me108..) to the American occupied zone or headed to the American lines near Eger using vehicles (Kettenkrad, trucks...) to prevent Russian captivity. There are many individual stories. One pilot I know even got a ride home by the Americans just back to the Rhine near Karlsruhe. They even warned him from the French, who looked for cheap mine workers.

As I am very interested in the last days of the jet units I would be glad to get the police reports of the Prague-Ruzyne jet activities against the Wlassow army

Michal, I have not read that and I would be very happy to see it, I am VERY interested in the Prague activites. Any information would be quite helpful. Thank you!
