JG 2 losses to Typhoons, 30 January 1944

Hello all,

On 30 January 1944, Hawker Typhoons of 198 Squadron and 609 Squadron RAF on a Ramrod mission in the Rouen area engaged Fw 190s and in subsequent combats claimed no fewer than 12-1-2 of them shot down without loss. According to the Aces High by Christopher Shores and Clive Williams their opponents were from JG 2 and this unit has lost at least 6 pilots on this date. Does anybody have the information about JG 2 casualties (usual pilot and aircraft details) sustained on 30 January 1944? Many thanks in advance for any help.

According to Thomas' and Shores' The Typhoon & Tempest Story (1988) the losses were: III./JG 2 lost at least 4 Fw 190s, Stab/JG 2 Hptm Fritz Edelmann and 10./JG 2 Hptm Bernhard Schenkbier.

JG 2 lost 4 Fw 190s in the Creil/Beaumont/Senlis area which resulted in pilot casualties. 198 Sqn claimed 9 destroyed, one probable and two damaged, 609 destroyed. Do day if you want more details but looks like there was way overclaiming

The summarische Verlustmeldungen show five total losses of JG2 due to aerial combat on January 30th, 1944, two from Stab/JG2 and three from III./JG2.

Hope this helps
