III./KG 6

Verehrte Mitstreiter,

Who can help me with the following case? At Bundesarchiv in Freiburg I found about the damage of an (apparently) Ju 88 or Ju 188 in the III./KG 6 summary loss list of 12 June 1944. Having crash-landed his aircraft, the German pilot was attacked by an Allied fighter aircraft while trying to extricate his wounded radio operator from the damaged aircraft. There is unfortunately no further account of this incident, and even Frank Olynyk's books could not bring any clarity. Who can help?

I can find no mention of this in the KG 6 history or the NVMs. If this did happen , this would have been on a transfer flight as all their operations (for obvious reasons) were flown at night

Re: III./KG 6

Were there any Allied claims that day for a Ju188 (III/KG6) as far as I could see only fighters were claimed. On the 9th 8/KG6 lost a Ju188 in a Luftkampf but the crew baled out with only the Bf Ogef. Rohloff injured all other lost crews either side of the 12th appear as either killed or missing. The incident described by Frosch reminds me of the strafed Ju88S of Stab KG66 on 23-3-44 in which the Bf was killed and previously discussed here.

So that would put the alleged incident during daylight hours?

Re: III./KG 6

My reading of the reported event is that it either happened during daylight hours, or perhaps in the early morning hours (i.e., between dawn and sunrise) or between the sunset and dusk?

I can't find a remark that all posts must be in English.

Peter: it has always been the policy, from the beginning, to have all posts in English, the most common language of the internet.

If you need it in writing, I will get it, although I'm not sure why you need this.
