Fi 156 shot down over Warsaw in 1939
Thre was shot down by Polish ground fire a Fi 156 from LG 2 (?) with Spiegelvogl on the board.
May someone have any details of this loss? regads mw |

Forced down by friendly fire. I have two photos of this aircraft and it was in very good shape (probably only a few bullet holes in the cockpit area).

The point is, that pilot was killed by Poles (land fire from Okęcie) during escape from the wrack. Inside was killed Maj Georg Spielvogl commander of II(Sch)/ LG 2.
According German plane was shot down by own fire with latter "land support" by Poles, which had killed the pilot. Fi 156 had damage less 60 %, taken from the field on 24.09. The A/A fire hit the cabine and forcing down the plane. Now it is still mostly impossible to find out who in fact shot down this Fi 156: German or Poles or it was "cooperative victory"? regards, mw |
