Dear All,

I am looking for some information about the personal planes flown by George-Peter Eder.
Altought he flown with JG1 and JG26 mid 44, JG2 43-44, JG7 end 44-45, with 78 enemy planes shoot down, and probably the top 4-engines day-scorer also, I never see one color profile of the planes he flown or some photos about them? May somebody help me?

Flavio - Eder always had a large White #13 on his Fighters , including his last , ME - 262. 78 fighter victories , 36 Bomber victories , 40 probables. Wounded 14 times. Well known among Allied Pilots for his chivalry in combat.

A lot of information about him in book " Horrido " by Raymond Toliver.

Actually that old fairy tale is exactly that, a fairy tale. Constable and Toliver is an ancient source that is not particularly reliable. Eder is thought to have cracked up in a 'black 1' in March 43 with JG 2 (see Ries) and several claim reports from the spring of 44 show he was flying a 'yellow 4' while Stkp. of 6./JG 1 and 'red 24' after being promoted to Kdr.

I have not the book by Ries where there is the picture of his "black 1", but in the following website: http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/di...otonummer=1365
you may see a crash landed "blue (or black) 1" supposed to be Eder's machine: is this the same picture you quote?

Flavio - In their memoirs , Fighter Ace Urban Drew and Polish RAF Pilot Michael Gladych both had several encounters with LW Fighter White 13.
After the War they both met Eder and talked about these encounters. They were able to confirm places and dates.
Book Luftwaffe Aces by Mike Spick also has some information on Eder.

Gentlemen

Eder was shot down 17 times and wounded 12 times durinf these occasions. He certainly used many more than those listed above, so there is, I feel, room for a white 13 as well as black 1, yellow 4 and red 24.:)

Actually, Bolesław Michał Gładych never served with the RAF. The only AF he officially served in was PAF, his USAAF status being unclear. His encounters with Eder seem highly unlikely to say the least, though a definite confirmation should be in Eder's log book (Anybody knows, where it is?).

Assuming he was in the appropriate unit a 1., 4. or 7. Staffel in the period through mid-44. In the information provided we have 5. St. (black), 6. St. (yellow) and Kdr. machine (red). I have the recorded losses and claim reports to back those up. I might also suggest that you guys review Eder's claims from the claims lists available on the web. There are several from 7./JG 2 in early 43 - 7. St would have a white code at that point in time. Other than that the vast majority of his claims were while with flying units that wore other than white codes. That gentlemen is called empirical evidence. Did he fly a 'white 13' certainly possible certainly for his time in 7./JG 2, but the 'always flew white 13' claim is bunk. If you can show something a little more substantial maybe I'll buy it. BTW, pilots memories/ recollections of such minute details are notoriously wrong. And Spick's not exactly any great fountain of credibility either. Anybody can write a bloody book, but if they don't do the actual research it don't mean much.
At this point you're probably wondering why I'm making an issue out of this - well, this is the way rubbish like 'Assi' Hahn's red-cowled BF 109F gets perpetuated for 30 years even when the real facts/evidence are there for everyone to see if they'd just look or pay attention.

Franek - According to official Air Victories , Mike Gladych had 10 while with the 56th FG , 61st Sq. 8th AF.
