R.F. Aitkin OBE AFC & Walrus 1940

Hi guys

Flt Lt Digger Aitkin was a Walrus flying boat instructor in early 1940, who took it upon himself to fly ASR sorties from Gosport circa July/August in attempts to rescue downed aircrew.

Did he actually rescue anyone, friend or foe?

Cheers
Brian

Excellent stuff, Col!

It would appear that he and his crew (who?) were responsible for the rescue of 35 RAF and German aircrew in a "few months".

I wonder if there is any record of these rescues?

Cheers
Brian
