5 October 1944 - BR 21
Gentlemen,
on 5 October 1944 according to official German sources 14 fighters flew attacks on vehicle and troop concentrations in Belgium using BR21 Werfergranaten and losing one a/c. The question is: to which unit did these fighters belong and which unit still used BR21 at this stage ? From the loss returns only two candidates are known, one from I./JG2 and the other from I./JG11. Has anybody out there got more information and is willing to share it with me ? KR Jochen Prien |

Hallo Jochen,
The deciphered II. Jagdkorps daily report in ULTRA is attached, speaking of mortar operations by JG 2 "in the Aachen area" — which might possibly include Belgium, I suppose. |

Hi,
To complement Nick's post, II. Jagdkorps orders for this day included: "Mortar Gruppen to be held in readiness to attack troop concentrations, armoured and M/T columns on roads Palenberg/Ubach and Scherpenseel/Palenberg/Ubach. Crews to study maps thoroughly." Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com/earticles |
