Messerschmitt Bf109E Yellow 12+~ ? 9/JG2?
Hi could anybody possibly help identify the circumstances of the following photo I am trying to date, and tie up to any known loss.
I have a picture of a Messerschmitt 109E under going recovery or removal from the rear of a truck. The a/c is coded with what appears to be yellow or brownish 12+~ from 9/JG2, the scan is from Flicker with the original source being " Parcellesdhistoires" The photo is taken in the middle of a French street right outside a shop displaying the sign " Au Paradis Des Dames" Flickr attribute this a/c as from 8/JG2 and red 12+~ but I believe from the photos I have that 8/JG2 either coded their a/c with red or black numerals with a white outline , and not black as the photo I have clearly shows. No date is given but the camouflage is typical for May 1940 period. Any help would be most appreciated. Steve. |

Hi Steve,
Photo was taken in Hirson street(s). It has been clearly identified. Dated May 1940 ... Roughly :) Nothing more. Regards, Franck. PS: Yes, 9.Staffel. |
Re: Messerschmitt Bf109E Yellow 12+~ ? 9/JG2?
Good evening Franck great to hear from you, hope your well.
Thanks for confirming the location and also the staffel. It would appear from the photo that this "Emil" is relatively undamaged so perhaps didn't appear on the loss lists. I've checked Prien and other sources but can't match it to any incident. Kindest regs, Steve. |
Re: Messerschmitt Bf109E Yellow 12+~ ? 9/JG2?
Dear Steve,
Thanks, you're the most welcome. It seems Hirson village was a kind of "passage obligé" for rescue teams during a period. Not the only machine photographied in the streets. Cheers, Have a nice day Steve. Franck. |
