1/Lt Charles Morgan Lawter USAAF
 

Hello to all

1/Lt Charles Morgan Lawter O-402761 was taken prisoner over Tunisia on 14 February 1943. His POW file indicates 3 Photo Group. Can any one confirm this, or add information as to the aircraft he was in etc? He was awarded a Silver Star and ended up a Major. He was born in 1919 and died in 1992.

Some more info on Lt. Lawter can be found on http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ok...w2/srvww2l.txt

Just scroll down to his name. In this text it remains unclear if he was piloting an aircraft at the time of his capture.
If having been stationed at Tullahome, TN, then 127th Observation (later Liaison) Squadron with L-4's likely at that place.

Just to add my suggestion that Lt. Morgan was not with 3rd PRG, but with 3rd (Air Support) Communications Squadron, XII Air Support Command, operating in Tunisia in Feb. 1943.

When you scroll down, you'll see the name of Lt Lawter in a telegram and how he earned a medal for gallantry.
